Landscapes in Motion: A Summer with the Marchutz Core Art Program

From June 1 to July 12 2024, the Marchutz Core Art Program at the Institute for American Universities in Aix-en-Provence welcomed students into six weeks of exploration under the guidance of professors O’Neill Cushman and William Ruller.

Working within the luminous Provençal landscape, students examined what traditional landscape painting means in today’s artistic conversation. Through both time-honored and experimental techniques, they charted their own visions—responding to a region where deep artistic heritage continues to shape contemporary creation.

It was a summer of looking closely, thinking deeply, and painting boldly.
