Joseph Roussel and Jana Roussel

On 21 February 2025, Joseph and Jana Roussel led an engaging workshop in the Mediterranean Seminar course introducing students to the tradition of Chinese rock appreciation. Blending art history, philosophy, and hands-on practice, the session invited students to explore the question, “Are rocks art?” Through discussion and creative exercises, students examined classical Chinese rock collecting and created original works inspired by these ancient forms. The workshop sparked thoughtful dialogue about aesthetics, nature, and cultural exchange, leaving students with new tools for thinking across time and place
