Growing up in Southern California, I remember my parents would place an ofrenda, which was a table with photos of deceased loved ones and pets, along with fresh flowers, fruit, and bread during Día de los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead. My parents, who moved to California from Mexico, continued this tradition of ofrendas in our home. Since then, I have celebrated Día de los Muertos in the United States and Mexico.

However, I never imagined I would celebrate Día de los Muertos in France one day!

This year, the annual three-day holiday, Día de los Muertos, was celebrated in Aix-en-Provence from October 31st to November 2nd. A group of Latino artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs gathered to host a Día de los Muertos event in front of Lucía Veneto Atelier Boutique. Angelica, the founder of the salsa brand Las Chachitas was present selling a variety of her salsas and tacos to the community.

In addition, during the event, there was face painting, live music, an outdoor art exhibit, and Mexican cuisine.
